Opportunity: deliver ergonomic solutions for the workplace
I found out about a good business opportunity at a conference we recently organized about the “workplace of the future”. A new law to regulate health and security at workplace is in operation from October 1st, 2006. With more legal requirements, employers will have to undergo an evaluation of the health and safety risk level of the workplace and then take preventive measures, in order to avoid risks like fines and legal liability.
This creates a need for professionals qualified to evaluate workplace health risks and propose integrated solutions for businesses - including lighting, ventilatory systems, workplace design, furniture and others. Ergonomics has been neglected in Romania for the past 10-20 years, and there are very few qualified specialists.

One company that has been operating this type of business in Romania is Corporate Office Solutions. They have been very successful in outfitting many of the modern office spaces, but there are ancillary business opportunites beyond this.
Regarding lighting, our office approached Elba who sent some engineers who were not trained to propose a solution - and they have not sent us an offer even one month later.
With so many more office spaces set to be delivered, there is a huge opportunity for professional services firms to take away the headaches of company management - and make a healthy profit at it.

What would be the profile of the evaluators? Doctors, architects, specialists in ergonomics? Public officers? Is there an ISO standard for the working condition in the office?

Even though it seems unlikely that public schools and universities would invest in better study environment for their students, private schools might be interested. Although, with no laws regulating a healthful and safe study place yet, it’s not such a sure deal.
