Where else could I advertise?

Opportunity: broadcasting commercials to a captive audience…

We had some previous post on new places where companies could advertise like gyms and garbage cans. With so many entertainment options available from internet to satellite and cable TV with hundreds of channels, advertisers are finding it more and more difficult to reach their intended audience.

Any service that could ensure certain demographic groups see your advertisement would be coveted. Some of the fast-food restaurants have installed LCD screens where they are broadcasting different funny things and/or images related to extreme sports; along with their own brand. There are, however, main other areas where this could be done.

The aptly named “Monopoly TV” at Bucharest’s airport does just that. It provides some TV screens showing short footage of limited appeal combined with advertising for those waiting in the departure lounge. Advertiser can be sure the captive audience won’t be changing the channel.

Where are other places this could be done?

Another idea of a place to advertise would be the areas related to public administration offices that gather crowds of people waiting there, helpless, to complete many of the tasks related to Romanian bureaucracy, such as Oficiul Registrului Comertului (Registry of Commerce), Camera de Munca (Human Resource Administration) and perhaps even the police stations of Bucharest. Most of such places are in dear need of renovations (general and furniture wise). If Romanian or European funds are not allocated to improve the conditions of business in these areas (both for customers and for state employees) perhaps some LCD screens set up for ads can bring in some extra funds. For example, while you are in a police station trying to have your ID renewed you could be watching short messages designed to make you aware of staying safe and for couple other minutes advertisements. The same case would be while you wait to register a new work contract with the Camera de Munca. Even if not all people will have perfect viewing access, at least you couldn’t help it not overhear the ad… and so it does not become too aggressive you can always have short announcements related to the facility you find yourself in.

Good idea. I thought of that too :)). My only question is: do you want to have an expensive LCD screen advertising some products while people are pissed off? Romanians are full of advertising because TV ads were done inappropriately, nowadays commercials can even annoy some people…and if they are already annoyed …breaking an LCD screen is the last of my worries…

I think Monopoly TV is also in hypermarkets like Carrefour … I hope I’m not mistaken… :)

If more comanies/ chains will decide to go in this direction (”sell ” TV commercials to their customers/public) I think that a new service will be created: content delivery for internal TV stations (like the one in Otopeni).
