Warning! Your battery is low!

Opportunity: Battery recharging services

Nowadays, the world is much more mobile than it was 20 years ago. The cell phone or laptop gives you the possibility of staying connected to the latest news or people no matter where you are. However, sometimes, when the laptop or mobile is needed most, the battery message warns us we have little time to quickly recharge if we don’t want to lose precious data or be interrupted from an important discussion. Everything is OK if there is a plug nearby. If not…

Such places where people often use laptops, but have no possibility to recharge them are airports, bus stations, railway stations etc. A solution to this problem would be a special service that would give anyone in need a recharged battery for the whole period of waiting the plane, bus, train etc. The owner of the laptop should leave his old battery, passport and a certain amount of money for using the new charged battery. If he/she wishes his/her battery charged during this period of time, he will have to pay some additional fee. When the departure time comes, he/she returns the battery and receives the passport and his/her old battery.

To run the business, there should be a sufficient number of different types of recharged batteries in order to be able to satisfy client’s needs and some laptops to recharge the old ones. Similar idea could be implemented for mobile batteries or for AA type batteries, as well.

The existence of such services would eliminate one of the few inconveniences these devices have: the power supply. And we won’t bother anymore whether the battery is low or not.

I think this solves a problem but better might be just to SELL the batteries - pre-charged at the airport or train station. Renting them, keeping track of the different battery types and trying to collect them before someone jumps on a plane would be complicated.

Considering after a year or so of use, most battery life is seriously degraded, you would likely catch some customers desperately in need. I assume they won’t mind if it is sold new already out of the box. I liked having a second battery for my laptop on business trips and would have paid for it if I needed it.

I have seen some of the most popular mobile devices’ batteries being sold in some airport stores but they are always in the box and hence useless for that immediate trip.

    Hello,

I have seen such a service at Shanghai Airport on a trip to China. Think of it a safety deposit box (coin operated). You simply put your phone in the little locker, and you plug it in to charge. You can either leave it there and take the key or you could wait for it to charge. I have not seen anything for laptops but considering how many types of batteries there are, i find it unrealistick to stock so many kinds fo laptop batteries.
