Opportunity: An online newly weds gift database
Getting a present for somebody is never easy, specially when your friend is getting married. If they have been living together for some time, they usually have their place with the furniture they need; if they are moving together for the first time, they need a variety of new things. As a gift giver is not easy to pick up the right one, and if you pick one, the probability of somebody else giving the same thing is high, so everybody (the gift giver and receiver) is in a complicated position. A good solution for this would be to create an on-line database in Romania, where the newlyweds enter all the things they need and want, and the prices. Every time somebody buys something, it is marked on the database, so people will not purchase doubles. The purchase is done through the web and the gifts delivered to the couple’s address. As a benefit of this process, you give them exactly what they want, they receive exactly what they need………..and they lived happily ever after.

A good solution.
But Romania only has an internet user base of approx. 1 million.
It also complicatedly depends on the internet literacy & preference, marital status, gender, and even income of these people (the couple and their acquaintances).
Shouldn’t it be suffice for the couple to register for gifts at their favorite store and access everyone?

Ben - I think what you mentioned is the preferred solution and what is done at some retailers. A combination online system plus in store kiosks would provide better access to more consumers. I would also think it would be imperative to have store representatives readily available to explain the concept and walk people through the process until it becomes more commonly understood.

Yes, it will definitely work if augmented with the traditional solution. A business here based on it completely might now work.
