The Blue Penguin’s story (so far)

The other week I wrote about “The Blue Penguin”, a newly opened self-laundering service that I had found out about from a flyer.

I was curious about the challenges the Blue Penguin’s managers faced in the process but also about their future plans, so I contacted them and got a very nice response.

The major obstacle was finding a suitable location near a campus. The “Regie” campus managers proved to be unapproachable, but just when it was turning out to be an impossible quest the opportunity of a space near the “Tei” campus emerged. In spite of the high price they closed the contract on the spot.

After only 3 months they opened the business, offering for now just self-laundering and mending services. By the end of the year they plan to implement the add-ons (internet access, copy shop and customized gifts shop).

If everything will turn out well prepare yourself to bump into more blue penguins around Bucharest.

Would you find that useful?

As a comment, the managers of the Regie Campus might get nicer if you choose to “donate” a small amount of money to their personal account. Maybe an idea for a laundry service in Regie would be best suited if implemented as a descentralized service. Meaning that each building should offer a small space for 2-3 laundry machines. This is an opinion of a student that needed this service during the last 5 years :)

Unfortunately there is a lack of transparency, as you noticed.
That’s a very good idea to bring the service even closer to the customers, and in the meantime, take advantage of the unused spaces that abound in the residences.
I wonder how easy it is to rent a space in a student residence…
