Please test my products!

Last week, Anca and I attended an EU forum on Environmental Technology Verification. The purpose was to discuss the best way to implement a European-wide verification system.
If you are small business with a highly innovative environmental technology product, it is very likely that you will experience difficulties in proving the performance of your product. You may well run your own tests, but your clients will want more than that to venture beyond the traditional solutions that are familiar to them.
In order to earn your clients’ trust, you might find that the best option is to ask an independent third party to perform a well-recognized verification process. This third party would work with you to determine what you claim about your product’s performance and create a testing process to verify these claims.
Similar systems are already active in the United States, Canada, and other countries. While the full implementation of a European-wide system is likely to take a long time to complete, such a system would provide significant advantages to small companies who would obtain recognition among all the countries within the EU. Ideally, this system would also integrate with other national systems, allowing verification results to be recognized worldwide. However, conversations during the forum indicated that this ideal is a long way off.
