Opportunity: offering cab services for women
Springwise spotted an idea that do very well on the Romanian market. It’s about cab companies for women, with cars driven by women. We’re looking at a potential market of 11.1 million women (according to the National Institute of Statistics).
One may argue that Romania is a misogynistic place, but if this type of business succeeded in places like Dubai and Teheran, in Romania should be no different. Besides, even Financial Times wrote about this idea.
As far as implementation, this service should have options specially created to suit women needs, such as baby chairs, a little make-up corner, etc. It should focus on safety and reliability, as that is what women want from a cab company. The women drivers don’t usually swear or listen to annoying music like male drivers do. You could also add-in a general option like taxi-by-sms .
Even though taxi licenses are limited for the moment, the Bucharest Municipality is discussing to remove this barrier.

Maybe a Taxi company on the romanian market could create a special Brand for this.

I think that the one who would build this brand should also consider Mihaela Radulescu for their advertisement. I read an article about her and her work experience before 1989. Did you know that she was a taxi driver and she accepted only women as customers?

I have a reason to believe that most women/girls feel as unconfortable as I do about taking a male driven taxi, especially if they travel alone and at night.
Plus, I think that the club aproach, the fact that one would be able to pay by credit card - thus eliminating the change problem- , and special safety measures that for example, the Pink Ladies in the UK emphasize , would make many women chose this option.

an ex-girlfriend listened to annoying music in the car…it was a serious issue.
