Opportunity: Ice cream parlours in Bucharest
As an icecream lover, I must say I am a bit disappointed with what Bucharest offers: from (dessert) restaurant to (dessert) restaurant, very little differs in terms of creative combinations and variety; only at the malls and in Carrefour Orhideea there’s a small “gelato” bar where you can buy some tasty icecream - but that’s it. In other cities, like Craiova, Iasi or Timisoara, you can be dazzled with options in some nice “gelateria” (as the Italians call the ice cream parlour), as the menus are quite impressive (ice cream and fruit combinations, fruit salads, shakes, coffee, juices, etc).

Would a so-called “gelateria” work for Bucharest, also? Well, there are plenty of icecream lovers here and they enjoy icecream no matter the season… A central location, a modern and creative design, tasty combinations of home made ice cream, yoghurt and fruit, customer oriented personnel, good music - here are just a few elements that could turn an icecream parlour in a favourite meeting place! Not to mention the creativity in the presentation of the delicious dessert!
It sounds deliciously profitable to me… What do you think?

Some close friends are big fans of a ‘gelateria’ - in Ramnicu Valcea! They rave about the huge cones of fruit and icecream, and go so far as to choose their driving route to go through Ramnicu Valcea.
Something like that in Bucharest would certainly draw a good following.

I though there were one or two ‘gelaterias’ - including one poorly-located on the corner of Stirbei Voda and Calea Plevnei. However, a quick search for ‘gelateria’ on Metropotam gives no results.

I remember I saw one close to Berzei area a couple of years ago, but I have no idea if that one is still operating. Anyway, it’s quite far from the center anyway … I miss the icecream from San Marco and Venezia in Craiova ….

I have to admit that i’m not an ice cream fan, but I’m for this places called ‘gelateria’ because you can meet your friends and have a great time without breathing the smoke that you find in a bar .

[...] Also, the sale of teapots, teacups, strainers, and other accessories, as well as all varieties of tea for home use, is at once a great source of revenue (I ended up purchasing accesories worth more than 4 times my consumption!), a constant reminder of the experience for the client, and a great marketing tool, as clients boast to friends about their new accesories and flavours of tea. This strategy - introduce the customer to a world of variety previously unknown, create a highly remarkable experience that people want to share with others, sell take-home items that people will present to their friends - is applicable to many other products such as chocolate, bakery products, ice cream, hobby and craft items and many more. Which do you think would be most welcome by Romanians? Tags:boutique, Food and beverage, specialty, tea, teahouse tearoom Related posts: [...]
