How effective is your signup page?

Opportunity: Improve client registration by reevaluating your Web 2.0 sign up page
The other day I came across an interesting and comprehensive post by Tim Bednar (via Guy Kawasaki) the art of the signup page. Come to think of it, it’s a Web 2.0 aspect that cannot be neglected. The signup page is the moment when you’re asking for commitment and you cannot afford doing a poor job at converting your visitors into actual users. As far as I’ve noticed, it’s important to have an aesthetic design, a user-friendly registration procedure, to provide a clear message of what the website stands for and what the benefits of registration are. Is it better to use buttons or links? How much information to convey?
As Tim puts it, the things you should keep in mind when creating/evaluation your website signup page are the following:
- Logo
- Elevator pitch
- Description copy
- List of key features
- List of key benefits
- Call to action
- Testimonials
- Tours
- Examples of users
- Screen shots
- Life-style images
- Link to more information (e.g. price, login page, about, blog, terms, privacy)
