Eating “green”

Opportunity: Offering vegetarian food
The vast majority of the Romanian people eat meat, but there is still a significant percentage (constantly increasing) that are vegetarians.

There are no restaurants in Bucharest that sell just vegetarian food and here you can make something happen (and also a lot of money). The “green hysteria” has reached Romania and any business from this area is flourishing.
You may begin with a small restaurant and explore the opportunities this niche offers.

If such a restaurant also offers take-home and delivery, it could service the existing vegetarians much better.

Wow Marius! It’s amazing to hear of people who have actually made major changes to their diet.

@Steve - I don’t know any such statistics… I have just sent an email to ask the people at Herghelia health center - they offer 2- to 3-week intensive lifestyle change programs, and during that time they put people on vegetarian diets (probably vegan, actually). It’s rather nice - they grow some of their own fruits and vegetables. I tend to think that if this type of statistics is available, they would know of it.

[...] With an estimate of about US$2 billion spent on fast food at the end of 2005 and an annual average sales growth of 26% the Romanian fast-food market is impressive. My colleagues Sara and Alex already blogged about the lack of “green” restaurants. A healthy fast-food chain would be more than welcome by serious and sometime vegetarians alike. As more fast-food fans begin to grasp the environmental impact of eating meat and choose a (semi) vegetarian diet opportunities will no doubt expand for those entrepreneurs who skillfully combine the two aspects.
