Does anybody know where could I shop for a tree?

Pelf was asking us in one of her comments on Clarisa’s post if we have environment related experience and if we want to share them. I promised that we will write about this. It’s a bit late, I know, but better late then never?

We started to select paper waste since we established the company. However, we were not sure the collected paper was making it to the collected paper to recycling centers. Enter NGO “Copacul de hartie” ( “The paper tree” see our previous posts). Their main objective was to collect the paper waste from companies, sell the paper to recycling centers and buy trees from the money collected on paper to be planted in various places in Bucharest and surrounding areas.

Great idea, great initiative! We joined their project in August 2007. We closed a contract and, in few days, we received some very nice “gifts” - 5 nice plastic recipients for collecting paper waste. They already picked up the first batch - about 50 kilos of paper. I do not know exactly how many tree branches our paper could buy but we are definitely looking forward to helping create a (small) forest.

The project was more successful than they expected. There are many companies that decided to join it and only four volunteers that collect so… until they will enlarge their volunteer army, don’t be mad if they come to collect the paper with two or three days delay. It is after all, a great initiative and I hope that in the near future they will “franchise” it in other parts of the country as well.
