Do the Green Thing - do it good and do it now

Mainly social opportunity mingled with a little bit of business opportunity to act as a reasonable citizen and save the planet

I am not the one responsible for identifying social opportunities on this blog but I just can’t help myself. I discovered a GREAT website from a blog post on Catalyst’s Social Business Blog. The website - www.dothegreenthing.com is promoting a global initiative for the individuals to reduce CO2 in their day to day activities.

The model is more than great. It is a very good source of information because it documents easy actions that all of us could do to contribute actively to CO2 reduction. The team behind the initiative includes well known environmentalists from all over the world thus leveraging the value of the information. The on-line community is created mainly through the Green Thing blog and the Green Thing wiki but you are encouraged to comment on all their videos and audio files as well.

You might find it interesting and you might like it even if you are not a convinced environmentalist, because besides being educative is also funny. For example - look what could happen if you decide to walk in one day instead of taking the car.

You should definitely pay them a visit if you do not have enough ideas for Christmas gifts - you might find “out of the box” solutions and…save carbon at the same time. The business opportunity mentioned above is rather indirect. The main impact of the initiative is, besides reducing CO2 emissions, raising awareness and educating the public …and I must admit, they do it in an outstanding way. The indirect result will be expanding the market for green business and restricting the possibility of large companies to negatively affect the environment through their actions. How? Enlightening the crowds and transforming them into sanctioning customers.
