Customer-oriented shopping services for women

Following up from Laura’s blog and recalling the adage “as incomes rise, time decreases,” it struck me that one of Laura’s wishes was simply for a pleasant and personal shopping experience, free from the hassle and unpleasant experience of going from store to store only to find nothing in particular that is appealing, and to have to deal with rude salespeople in the meantime. (Something that both men and women can agree on). In Bucharest, this can also be a dirty experience if the shopper has to travel around town to go to various stores for various purchases.

Many sources such as the one here note that Women are a significantly increasing demographic for many major sales segments, and with increasing purchasing/spending power. Further, the increasing numbers of women in executive and well-paid positions, and with money to spend, is also a commonly noted statistic.

In addition to clothes and other consumer goods, there are a number of major purchases (perhaps traditionally thought of as mainly purchases made by men) for which the percentage of women making the purchase is increasing every year: Cars, houses, real estate, hi-tech. For all of these purchases, women typically do in-depth research before their purchase (maybe even more research and thinking than men).

One business idea out of all of this: a one-stop website and shopping service geared exclusively for women, focusing on all kinds of major purchases: cars, real estate, hi-tech, as well as clothes and other consumer goods. Information and articles by, for, and about what women are looking for in products, services, and technology. Discussion groups about the products, what consumers like, what they don’t like, as well as third-party reviews and technical specifications of the products. And portals to the brands or retail stores.
In addition to an information site, a professional staff to provide customized services for increasingly busy women, to be a legal agent for major purchases, and to remove the experience of rude customer service and traveling all over town for everything from cars, houses, clothes, equipment…..only to find nothing suitable. If looking for a house or car, let the shopping service do all the legwork and deliver the paperwork and keys to your doorstep. If looking for a suit, instead of going all over town (around construction zones, across traffic, over potholes, in buses, waiting in traffic) looking for suits, let the shopping service do all the legwork and help you find what you’re looking for, and bring it to you to try. And if it’s not available in town, the shopping service can order it for you and deliver it to try.
