Opportunity: Fruit and vegetables kiosks
I have just returned from a trip to Barcelona and I must say I was impressed with the importance the Spanish people give to their health: from healthy food to daily exercise (people jogging and riding their bikes at any time, mornings and
evenings).
Speaking of healthy food, a very common sight are the “Fruterias” - stands, kiosks and even large stores with fresh fruit and vegetables on almost every large boulevard in the city center, and also on the narrow streets near the appartment-houses. What the Catalans surely know how to do is sell their products … attractive stands … at attractive prices.
What ab
out Romanians? Would the investors in such kiosks gain any profit? Definitely. Romanians like freshness, variety and … low prices. They would prefer to buy locally produced fruit and vegetables from a kiosk nearby, rather than overpriced plastic flavored veggies from supermarkets or even from market places.
On BusinessIDEAS.ro, we have previously proposed fruit kiosks for people on the run, organic produce stands, and supply chains for fresh produce. “Fruterias” are a similar business that is obviously very successful elsewhere, made possible by good supply chaining.
If you live in Romania, are you satisfied with the fruit and evegtables you are able to buy and the convenience of buying them? If you have lived anywhere in Spain, do you miss the “Fruteria” down the block?

I loved the little fruteria just across the street from the apartment building I used to live in, close to Valencia. The staff people were always friendly, and willing to even provide their mom’s or sister’s recipes for different foods (as well as stories about the recipes), chatted you up as you selected your food, and basically were on a first-name basis with everyone in the neighborhood. A young mother would come in the door and the cashier would immediately ask questions about baby’s health. An elderly person would come in, and the clerk would greet her warmly and remark that he hadn’t her for 3 days - had she been ill?
This must be one of the most important factors to the success of Fruterias!

I love fruits and I would love to see this business get going. I can’t live two days without an orange, apple, etc
