And that one is from Sibiu

We had posted earlier about the opportunity in offering high-quality souvenirs for tourists. Alexandra, one of my students at ASE wrote a summary of her business plan in this area and decided to share it with us. While it will take a lot of work for her to define and implement this plan, I look forward to purchasing souvenirs from her shop when she opens it!
The purpose of my business plan is to open a handicraft shop in Sibiu, a city full of culture and traditions,
and also the cultural capital of Europe. While we have many beautiful places in our country, they are poor developed, and in Sibiu there are no strong competitors. We rely on a target market of foreigners and local tourists. Our goal is to form a strong brand, to develop our business in other cultural parts of our country, to encourage the tourism. We will offer hand-made products, not only from the Sibiu area, but also from Banat, Bucovina etc. Our salespeople will create an authentic experience by wearing traditional clothing and explaining with precision the main characteristics of the products. We will make sure our people are fully trained. Our website will feature detailed information about our products.
Products on offer will include ceramic vases from Horezu, objects carefully made by our craftsmen, pottery with Dracula inscriptions or with images from Sibiu, wood and glass objects, glass paintings, dolls wearing traditional clothing.
Every country takes advantage from its tradition. For example, in Paris at every corner tourists find Tour Eiffel trinkets. Romania, though well-known as “Dracula landâ€, offers limited products with a Dracula theme. Our pupose is to redefine handicraft in the Sibiu area.

Without direct foreign tourists coming to the shop it doesn´t work. How many suvenirs from everywhere in this world did you order via internet? Locals have enough, and buying local craft is really “local”, since other stuff you already bought at other stations of your tour or you will do so. The pleasure is the local buying. Plus there are more different shaped things where the stuff is crafted.

[...] A recent comment from “C” on a post from last month regarding a high-quality handicraft store in Sibiu that would also sell on line: “Without direct foreign tourists coming to the shop it doesn´t work.
