Opportunity: promote products in an original way
In Romania advertising is gaining more and more spaces. There are a few advertising companies making a great job, like Oops Media (advertising in restrooms) and Elevate ( in elevators). Recently, while reading the Urban Furniture blog, I saw something that is still very rare in: advertising on trashcans (specifically, the image to the left of this post).
The only products I saw advertised on trash panels in Romania are cigars. However, with the new restrictions for tobacco advertising, this will no longer be an option. So, everyone will see an advertisement on a littercan, and this makes this kind of promoting one of the most visible.
This could be a win-win situation for municipalites that can have the private company take over the costs of maintating and servicing the trash receptacles in return for allowing the advertising.

[...] My colleague Clarisa was talking in an earlier post about advertising on trash cans and pointed out the new spaces that advertising undertakes and I thought about advertising in gyms. [...]

Coppertone Suntan lotion had a contract (and maybe they still do) where they would supply garbage cans for certain beaches in Los Angeles in return for advertising on them. This was exremely effective as every Southern California beachgoer associates a row of bright yellow garbage cans with the word “Coppertone” with their day at the beach.
