My wallet was shivering

luxury

Last weekend, I visited the Luxury Show at RomExpo with low expectations, or rather… too-high-for-my-budget expectations. Normally I go to these trade show/events as it is a good way to see what is available or arriving soon in Romania. This time, I was curious to see just how high-end the high-end market would be.

There were certainly examples within the “money can’t buy taste” family such as the pictured retrofitted (or “tricked out” for the young generation; “pimped” for the even younger generation) Humvee or some pricey, yet garish luxury home furniture that screamed - Saddam Ceausescu.

There were, however, some more down-to-earth vendors of high-quality products and services. Two I liked were:

Privileg Catering – The food they had displayed looked great, the staff and general director were helpful and knowledgeable, and – upon checking later – the website looked good. I am thinking we should use them for our next event.

Green Shop – A specialty garden shop that can get you some unique plants, design and plant your garden, and other services.

I like seeing this area of quality service with a reasonable, but slightly higher price. These services are well within the reach of someone who needs to have a nice result but has the income level of someone who forgot to plunder the Romanian state’s assets in earlier years. The creation of a vibrant service market has begun!

Did any others go? Any thoughts?

The Privileg Catering products do look nice, but I would like to see more variety.

In Romania we have theory; it states that no matter how much money you have for spending, you will always find something that exceeds your budget.

The services these companies provide are not overpriced just because they enter into the luxury category?
